Document management

iManage workspaces that are ready when the matter is.

We create workspaces from your templates, file and profile documents by rule, and keep iManage Work consistent with your practice management, docketing and Microsoft 365.

Talk about your iManage Work setup

iManage Work integration, built around your firm

In an iManage firm, the workspace is the matter file. Documents and filed email live there, profiled by client, matter, document class and author, and security on the workspace decides who can open it. Most firms rightly refuse to keep a second, ungoverned copy of client documents anywhere else.

That makes the gaps expensive. Workspaces are created by hand after the matter opens, sometimes with the wrong client or matter number. Documents produced in other systems, such as signed engagement letters or call notes, never reach the workspace. Staffing changes in the practice management system don't reach workspace security. And iManage Work has no deadlines, so a court order filed there only starts the clock if someone notices it.

We connect iManage Work to the systems around it through its REST API. A new matter gets a workspace built from the right template, with client and matter fields set. Documents from other systems are filed into the correct folder and profiled by rule. New documents of the classes you choose are routed to the right person for review. Other systems get links back to the workspace instead of copies. It all runs in your firm's Microsoft 365 / Azure tenant.

What we connect

The iManage Work data we work with

Workspaces and folders

Find a matter's workspace by client and matter number, or create one with its folders, and read the folder tree to file in the right place.

Documents and versions

Upload, download, add versions, update profiles, and copy or move documents, with custom fields such as client, matter, practice area and document class.

Filed email

Email is stored as documents in iManage, with sender, recipients and sent and received dates we can read and set.

Client and matter values

Read and add the client and matter values your profile fields validate against, so filing never fails on an unknown matter number.

Security

Read and set access on workspaces, folders and documents for users and groups, so other systems follow the same rules.

Users and groups

Map iManage users and groups to Microsoft 365 accounts and to staff in your other systems.

For your IT team

How the iManage Work integration works

  • Credentials from iManage, enabled by your administrator. iManage issues the OAuth credentials for each application; there is no self-serve sign-up. Your administrator then adds the application in Control Center, chooses which users it can act for, and decides whether it may refresh its sign-in. Without refresh enabled, sessions end after a period of inactivity.
  • Changes are checked, not pushed. iManage Work does not publicly offer webhooks for document or workspace changes. We look for new and changed items by edit date on a schedule, with overlapping windows so nothing is missed. On iManage Cloud, its Power Automate connector also lets a user start a workflow from a document or workspace, which suits on-demand actions such as "send for review".
  • Cloud or on-premises. The REST API is available on iManage Cloud and on-premises Work Server. The Power Automate connectors and iManage's MCP server are cloud only. iManage provides its full API reference to customers and partners rather than publicly, so we confirm your hosting, version and access with your administrator before committing to a design.
  • Security still applies. The integration sees only what its iManage account is allowed to see, so workspace security, and any ethical walls applied through it, still hold. The code, credentials and logs stay in your firm's Azure subscription.
Workflows

Where iManage Work fits

Email and documents filed by rule

Complete matter files without anyone dragging and dropping.

Signed client → matter open everywhere at once

Matter opening goes from days of handoffs to minutes, and every system starts with the same data.

Client call → transcript in the DMS → summary, follow-ups and calendar

The call is documented, filed and on the calendar before the attorney has hung up the headset.

Questions about connecting iManage Work

iManage already integrates with a lot of products. Why add custom work?

If an existing integration does what you need, use it, and we'll tell you so. Vendor integrations connect two products in a standard way. We build the workflow that crosses several systems and follows your firm's own rules, such as intake to matter to workspace to docketing.

Can a document filed in iManage trigger something straight away?

Not automatically, because iManage Work does not publicly push change events. Scheduled checks pick up new documents within minutes. If a person needs to start something immediately, on iManage Cloud a "Start a workflow" action on the document can do it.

Do you need administrator rights to our whole library?

No. We ask for the narrowest access that does the job, limited to the libraries and workspaces in scope. Your administrator controls the application in Control Center and can switch it off at any time.

We run iManage on-premises. Does that limit us?

The REST API works on-premises, but iManage's Power Automate connectors and MCP server are cloud only. On-premises, the automation also needs a secure network path from your Azure environment to your Work Server, which we plan with your IT team.
