E-signature

Signed documents that file themselves and start the next step.

When an engagement letter or agreement is signed, we file the signed copy to the matter, update your practice management system and start what comes next, without anyone downloading a PDF.

Talk about your Docusign setup

Docusign integration, built around your firm

Docusign is how many firms get engagement letters, settlement agreements, declarations and consents signed. Attorneys may send from Docusign directly, from Word or Outlook, or from inside the practice management system. These are often the first and last documents in a matter, and each one belongs in the file.

What happens after signature is usually manual. Someone notices the completion email, downloads the signed PDF and the certificate of completion, saves them to the matter, and tells intake the client has signed so the matter can be opened. Envelopes that stall, or bounce because of a wrong email address, are spotted late. The matter number is rarely on the envelope, so finding the right matter later means searching.

We put the client or matter reference on each envelope when it is sent and listen for Docusign's events. When an envelope is completed, the signed documents and certificate are filed to the matter in your document system or SharePoint, the practice management record is updated, and for engagement letters the matter-opening workflow starts. Declined, voided and bounced envelopes go to the right person. It all runs in your firm's Microsoft 365 / Azure tenant.

What we connect

The Docusign data we work with

Envelopes and templates

Create and send envelopes from your templates, with recipients, reminders and expiry set by rule.

Matter references

Envelope custom fields that carry client and matter numbers, so every event and search maps back to a matter.

Status for every signer

Sent, opened, signed, declined, voided and bounced, for each envelope and each recipient.

Signed documents

The completed documents, combined into one PDF or separately, and the certificate of completion.

Form data and audit trail

Values signers entered in form fields, and the envelope's audit events.

For your IT team

How the Docusign integration works

  • An integration key on your account. The integration uses an integration key on your firm's Docusign account, which must pass Docusign's Go-Live step before it works in production. We handle that process with your account administrator.
  • Consent for unattended work. Scheduled jobs sign in with Docusign's JWT grant, acting as a user who has given one-time consent. If your firm has claimed its email domain in Docusign, an organization administrator can grant that consent centrally.
  • Signed events through Docusign Connect. Docusign Connect pushes envelope and recipient events to an endpoint in your tenant. Each message carries an HMAC signature we verify, and with acknowledgement turned on, Docusign retries failed deliveries and can republish missed ones.
  • Polling only as a fallback. Docusign restricts how often an envelope's status may be polled, so the design relies on Connect events and uses scheduled checks only to reconcile.
  • Private, not a public app. Docusign's partner program applies to integrations offered to many customers. Yours serves only your firm, runs on your account, and lives in your Azure subscription.

Questions about connecting Docusign

We already send from Word, Outlook or our practice management system. Does this replace that?

No. Envelopes sent from those integrations still raise the same Connect events on your account, so we can file and act on them however they were sent. We filter by template, sender or custom field so only the envelopes in scope are handled.

Isn't there a built-in option for this?

Docusign has a Power Automate connector and integrations with many practice management and document systems. If one of them covers what you need, we'll tell you. We build the cross-system part: matter opening, filing to your document system with the right profile, and follow-ups.

Will this send documents for signature automatically?

Only where your firm decides it should, and only from approved templates. Most firms start with what happens after signing, which is where most of the manual handling is.

Where do the signed documents end up?

In the matter workspace in your document system or SharePoint, profiled as a signed document, with the Docusign envelope ID kept for audit.
