Practice & firm management

Orion and TimeSolv, connected to the rest of your firm

ProfitSolv's products are strong on billing and accounting. We connect them to the systems that handle intake, documents, deadlines and calendars, and fill the gaps between them.

ProfitSolv (Orion & TimeSolv) integration, built around your firm

ProfitSolv owns several practice management and billing products, including Orion, TimeSolv, Tabs3, CosmoLex and Rocket Matter. They share a parent company but not an API: each one exposes different data in a different way. This page covers the two we have mapped in detail, Orion and TimeSolv. For the others, we assess what is available during the analysis.

Orion is a practice management and full accounting system for mid-size and larger firms, and TimeSolv is cloud time, billing and trust for smaller ones. Both hold the client and matter list, the team and the time, but neither exposes a calendar you can write deadlines into, and neither sends change events. Left alone, that means matters opened twice, team changes that never reach docketing, and hearings worked but never billed.

We treat Orion or TimeSolv as the system of record for clients, matters and billing, and make everything else agree with it. Changes are picked up on a schedule, docketing and Microsoft 365 handle deadlines and calendars, and time is drafted back for review. It all runs in your firm's Microsoft 365 and Azure tenant.

What we connect

The ProfitSolv (Orion & TimeSolv) data we work with

Clients and matters

Orion: read, plus creating new clients and matters (after creation, only the matter code, name and alias can be updated). TimeSolv: read, create and update clients and projects, its term for matters.

Matter teams and staff

Orion attorney roles on each matter and its staff list. TimeSolv responsible and originating timekeepers, project assignments and firm users.

Ethical walls (Orion)

Orion exposes which people are walled from which matters, so connected systems can respect the same walls.

Time and expenses

Draft time entries and expenses created for review in Orion or TimeSolv, for example from hearings and deadlines worked.

Billing and accounting data

Orion AP vouchers, GL accounts and banks. TimeSolv invoices, payments, ledger and trust balances, which are largely read-only.

Calendars (TimeSolv, read-only)

TimeSolv calendar events can be read to avoid duplicate calendaring, but not written. Orion has no calendar API, so deadlines and events live in docketing and Microsoft 365.

For your IT team

How the ProfitSolv (Orion & TimeSolv) integration works

  • Orion: a third-party access user. Your firm creates a dedicated Third Party Access user in Orion, and its role defines exactly what the integration can see and change. Its credentials are stored in your firm's Key Vault. Firms running Orion on their own servers are reached through Orion Relay, which Orion support sets up.
  • TimeSolv: OAuth with a firm login. TimeSolv issues developer access on request, and a firm administrator then authorizes the app with their own login. Results follow that user's permissions, so we use an administrator-level authorization for sync. Access can be revoked through TimeSolv.
  • Scheduled sync, not push events. Neither Orion nor TimeSolv sends webhooks or change events. The integration checks for recently changed matters, staff and walls on a schedule, typically every few minutes, and runs fuller reconciliations less often. Changes show up shortly after they are made, not instantly.
  • Written carefully, because some things can't be undone. Orion has no delete endpoints, so a mistaken record has to be fixed in Orion by hand. We dedupe before every create, never blind-retry a write, and send time entries as drafts for a person to review and release.
  • Runs in your tenant. The integration is deployed into your firm's Azure subscription, with credentials in your Key Vault and every write logged in your own environment.

Questions about connecting ProfitSolv (Orion & TimeSolv)

We're on Tabs3, CosmoLex or Rocket Matter. Can you help?

Possibly. Each ProfitSolv product has its own integration surface, and they don't share an API with Orion or TimeSolv. We check what your product exposes during the analysis and tell you plainly what is and isn't possible before you commit to a build.

Why can't deadlines go straight into Orion or TimeSolv?

Orion's API has no calendar, deadline or task data, and TimeSolv's calendar is read-only through its API. So deadlines are calculated in your docketing system and placed on Microsoft 365 calendars, tied to the same matter numbers as your billing system.

Can hearings and deadlines turn into time entries?

Yes, as drafts. Events worked in docketing or Outlook can become draft time entries on the right matter, with task codes applied where your matters require them. An attorney reviews and releases them, so nothing is billed automatically.

How quickly do changes show up in other systems?

Because neither product sends change events, the integration checks on a schedule. Matter and team changes are typically picked up within minutes, and heavier data such as time and expenses on a longer interval. We agree the timing with you during the design.
