Practice & firm management

Connect PracticePanther to the systems it doesn't talk to yet.

We keep PracticePanther matters, teams and calendars in step with your docketing, document storage, intake and Microsoft 365, without anyone retyping a matter.

Talk about your PracticePanther setup

PracticePanther integration, built around your firm

PracticePanther is where many firms keep clients, matters, assigned staff, time and billing. It also often holds the statute of limitations date and the firm's own custom fields for court, judge and case number, which are exactly the details docketing and document systems need before they can do their own work.

Without a connection, those details are copied by hand. A matter opened in PracticePanther has to be opened again in docketing and again in the document system, deadlines calculated elsewhere are re-entered as events, and a reassigned matter keeps notifying the old team. Closed matters stay open in the systems nobody remembered to update.

We build that connection with PracticePanther's API. Because PracticePanther does not push changes, the integration checks for them on a short schedule and reconciles in full every night. It runs in your firm's Microsoft 365 / Azure tenant, follows rules your firm approves, and routes anything uncertain to a person for review. Your firm owns the code and can see every change it makes. If an existing PracticePanther integration covers what you need, we'll tell you.

What we connect

The PracticePanther data we work with

Matters

Create and update matters, including status, assigned users, open and close dates, statute of limitations date, tags and matter custom fields.

Accounts, contacts and relationships

Client accounts with their primary and other contacts, and matter relationships such as opposing counsel or judge.

Events and tasks

Create, update and delete calendar events and tasks linked to a matter and assigned to staff. Events have no recurrence or reminder fields in the API, so reminders are handled on the Microsoft 365 side.

Time and expenses

Create time entries and expenses on a matter against the firm's billing items, for attorney review before billing.

Notes, call logs and emails

Matter and contact notes, call logs and email records, which we use to leave an audit trail on the matter.

For your IT team

How the PracticePanther integration works

  • Access requested by your firm. PracticePanther grants API access case by case. Your firm asks PracticePanther support to enable it, then an administrator creates the app under Settings and the redirect address is registered with PracticePanther. We provide the details for each step.
  • OAuth, acting as one user. The connection acts as the PracticePanther user who authorizes it and sees what that user can see, so we use an account your firm chooses for the purpose. Access tokens rotate on every refresh and the integration refreshes them on a schedule, even when nothing is changing. Credentials are held in your Key Vault.
  • Polling, not push. PracticePanther has no webhooks. The integration asks for records updated since its last check, every few minutes, and runs a nightly reconciliation to catch deleted records, which a time-based check cannot see.
  • What the API does not cover. Documents are not available through PracticePanther's API, and invoices and payments can be read but not created. Users are read-only, so staff are still added in PracticePanther itself.
  • Runs in your tenant. The integration runs in your firm's Azure subscription under its own identity, with every change logged. Your IT team can revoke it at any time without us.
Workflows

Where PracticePanther fits

Two-way matter sync: practice management ↔ docketing

One matter, identical in every system, without anyone keying it twice.

Signed client → matter open everywhere at once

Matter opening goes from days of handoffs to minutes, and every system starts with the same data.

Matter migrations that don't break everything around them

A migration you can verify, with your integrations still working on day one.

Questions about connecting PracticePanther

Does PracticePanther push changes to you as they happen?

No. PracticePanther does not offer webhooks, so the integration checks for changes on a schedule, typically every few minutes. For matter sync and calendaring that is usually close enough, and we agree the timing with you during the analysis.

Can documents be filed into PracticePanther automatically?

Not through the API, which does not expose documents. We file documents into your DMS or SharePoint workspace instead and can add a note on the PracticePanther matter recording where they went.

Is this approved or endorsed by PracticePanther?

No. We are independent and use PracticePanther's published API under its terms, with access your firm requests. Your firm stays the customer of record with PracticePanther, and the integration can be disconnected from either side.

Can you create invoices in PracticePanther?

No. The API lets us read invoices and payments for reporting, but not create them. Billing stays in PracticePanther, and we can make sure the time entries feeding it are complete and on the right matter.
